OtterBox BlackBerry Pearl & Curve Cases: A Home Run

Curve_n_pearl_4   Companies that were once hesitant to provide BlackBerry® devices to their employees are now willing to launch these smartphones due to the protection the OtterBox case offers. Employees can now take their device on the go and companies don’t have to worry about expensive replacements and repairs. The initial response to the OtterBox Pearl™ and Curve™ cases from RIM and several of the Wireless Carriers has been "Wow!  I think you have hit a home run with this one."

We have the Pearl case available for ordering online and the Curve case for pre-order.

I am considering the Otterbox for my 8830. Looking to find out how wide of a belt the belt clip will actually work on. Does the holster swivel? Is it possible to more permanently attach it to a belt without the spring clip? Images and specs I've seen on line don't quite address these couple questions.

Is there a extension available for the charge port when using the iPhone otterbox?

Dear Otterbox,
I bought my Otterbox last April the same time I got my Blackberry 8830. This thing definitely gives me piece of mind. I need something that protects and gives me access to my PDA. I shopped around first and nothing came close. The Otterbox was the "no brainer" choice for ultimate protection. I highly recommend your products to everyone I know. In fact, the belt clip broke and you replaced it without a charge. Thank You!

Hi Jim--

Thanks for your consideration of the OtterBox 1933 case. You can see all the features on the product page at: http://www.otterbox.com/products/smart_phones/blackberry_8800_case/. It is not too difficult to get the BlackBerry in and out of the case you simply pull off the silicone wrap, snap apart the two halves of the polycarbonate shell and remove the optional membrane covering the screen or keys. Additionally, since you can sync/charge through the case most people don’t need to take it in and out of the case often. You can also plug in your corded hedset/mic right into the 3.5mm jack, also accessible through the case. As for the MicroSD card you will have to remove the BlackBerry from the case to insert/change that, but it stores so many files that that wouldn’t need to be accessed frequently either. Let us know if you have additional questions. -OtterBox

I had a Blackberry (7100i) which was a tank compared to the new 8830 that I just got. So I am looking at protective cases. I also don't like the usb port on the side, just open without a dust cover. So I started looking for protective cases. And OtterBox seems to be well rated. Locally, there is a lot of speculation about them. So can I ask for a couple of features in the "features" list?
One rumor locally is that it is hard to get the Blackberry back out of the OtterBox after it is in there, to change to a fresh battery or the MicroSD card. The person who gave me the information is not now, nor have they ever been an OtterBox owner, but they saw one once.

One other thing has to do with the use of the MicroSD card to store music. I plan to do that. But the 8830 is not stereo bluetooth, so I will need to use a corded headset/mic. Is the 3.5 mm jack accessible in the OtterBox?

Thanks for the info!

God bless,

Jim

I love the IPOD cases and now have a Blackberry Pearl 8130. I know the web page says a defender case will be available in early 2008, but I am dying for it to come out soon. I refuse to waste my money on a case I won't be happy with just until the defender comes out. Any idea on date of release? Thanks.

Mic, thanks for the support!!! I’m so glad our cases have worked out for you and your family. The Curve case does offer an optional thin, polycarbonate membrane that covers the keypad and screen to prevent scratches and dust/dirt from entering the device. It does have an opening at the trackball to provide access, so that area is left open but with the included beltclip, all surfaces are protected when it’s stored. This is a new case in our Defender™ Series line and provides more of a slim-fit, sleek design without the bulk. Let us know if you have additional questions! -OtterBox

I love OB products.. I have them for all of my family's ipods for GREAT times at the beach. I just wish OB made a keyboard cover as part of the case for the curve. I use my curve as a profesional and as an outdoorsman and handyman in off hours.
